Lacrosse Reminders – Uniforms, Registration, and Gear – oh my!

Lacrosse Fans – Only about two months away from the season!! Some reminders and information for you:

Uniform Store Closes in 3 Days – If your player needs a uniform, PLEASE order one now! Before this weekend’s snowstorm… more importantly, before the online store closes on January 30th. You need a uniform if: your player outgrew their old uniform, prefers a different number (custom order numbers are available this year), or are new to Seacoast. You don’t need a uniform if: your player already has one (reversible pinnie and black bottoms) or your player is a Kindergartner (boys) or K/1st (girls). Girls note – black shorts are fine, girls don’t need skirt/skort and can use shorts if preferable.

Registration is open - Please register your player and get your player’s friends to register! We’ll keep registration open into the season, but registering before March 1st allows us to plan accordingly with team counts, field locations, practice schedules – and league participation!

Boys shoulder pads – This year, boys’ shoulder pads should be NOCSAE certified as heart safe. To reduce the risk of commotio cardis injuries, all lacrosse programs nationally are transitioning to the new heart safe shoulder pads. Please check your boys player’s pads – and if you need a new pair – please order / purchase now!! Supply chain issues and a national run on shoulder pads may result in delays and unavailability. It is a safety thing… For more information, see https://www.usalacrosse.com/lacrosse-chest-protector-faq

Want to help out Seacoast or become a trained Referee? Seacoast is always looking for help – see our Volunteer Opportunities page and/or reach out with questions or interest. Also, there’s a shortage of referees… if you or your responsible high school / college aged kid are looking to get involved and make a few dollars on the weekend, the sport and our program could use you! Please let us know if you’re interested and we’ll get you plugged in.

General Season Schedule - We are still securing fields, determining coaching availability, and (in many cases) working on team selection. That said, we will get rosters and schedules out to you as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime, pencil on your calendar the weekend of April 9/10 as the first games of the season.  SAYLL (up to grade 4) is on Saturday mornings from April 9 to about the first week of June (with Memorial Day weekend off). NHYLA (grades 5-8) is on Sunday mornings from April 10 to about the second week of June (with Memorial Day weekend off). When more information is available, it will be posted to SAYLL.net and NHYLA.org

As soon as reasonably possible, please get a stick in your player’s hands! About two months until practice starts!!!

Gooooo Seacoast!

New Shoulder Pads Required *(Boys)*

Please note: for the Spring 2022 season, all players wearing chest protection (boys' shoulder pads and goalies) need to have the new heart-safety equipment.  In order to protect against the risk of commotio cordis (cardiac arrest due to a blow to the heart area), all shoulder pads need to be NOCSAE ND 200 compliant.

Please get your sons new shoulder pads that are heart safe!

SPRING 2022 LACROSSE REGISTRATION is OPEN and
EVALUATION DATES are scheduled for October 3rd, 17th, and 24th!

Yes, the school year and fall sports barely got off the ground and we are already looking forward to the Spring.  In prior years we held tryouts late Fall (cold and dark), so we are trying to move it up.

Registration is the same for NHYLA and SAYLL.  League placement is age based with the exception of a few years.  This year we are also introducing a new 3rd option (league wise) for Grades 5-8.  The team is called the “SAYLL Sixers.”  More information at the bottom of this email.

2.       EVALUATION LOGISTICS

Evaluations for Spring 2022 took place in October.

Note:  SAYLL Sixers.   The purpose of the SAYLL Sixers is to give the kids in grades 5-8 who want to try a new sport, who started lacrosse late or may not want such a competitive season to learn the fundamentals of lacrosse.  This league would still practice twice a week and have games on Saturday.  They may only have 5 or 6 games because we want them to have a chance to learn the basics of catching, passing, cradling and ground balls before putting them in a game situation.  We would play on a short field and only have 6 players on the field at a time and there would be no goalies.  We are trying to develop field players and do not want the kids to feel they have to try goalie as well.  There would be no set positions as we want the players to learn all the positions.  There would be a rule that forces a set of completed passes to make sure that all the kids are getting involved in the game.  The number of passes required may change as the season progresses and depends on what the coaches decide in the beginning of the game.  This league is a developmental league where kids will not be evaluated and the focus on the season is to teach the kids the fundamentals of the game, how to play as a team and the rules of the game.  If there is a player whose progress is substantial and the coach feels they can try a game with one of our teams in NHYLA, that player will be invited to play in the more competitive league. This is a new league and may change year to year depending on the needs of the players in our program.
